Baby carrots

Everyone knows the baby carrot. Crunchy, convenient, perfect as a snack or to accompany a meal, it’s part of daily life for many Quebec families.

But few realize that behind its simple shape lies real processing work.

At Carroté, we chose to do more. By processing our baby carrots right here in Québec, we support local farming in season, and maintain this processing locally in the off-season. It’s a concrete way to contribute to Québec’s food autonomy by valuing our resources and expertise, year-round.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do mini carrots create a lot of waste?

Not at all! On the contrary, mini carrots help reduce food waste. Whether a carrot is too big, too small, or slightly imperfect, it’s always put to good use. Even the small pieces trimmed during shaping get a second life, either as animal feed or as compost in the fields. Nothing goes to waste—everything is repurposed!

It grows just like any other carrot… because it really is just a carrot! We cultivate naturally sweet varieties with a small core, which makes shaping easier. They are harvested at full maturity, washed, and trimmed to create their smooth, uniform shape—perfect for snacking.

Once peeled, mini carrots lose water more quickly. This moisture mixes with their natural sugars, forming a thin film on the surface. In a closed package, this humid environment can also encourage the presence of naturally occurring bacteria or yeasts. The result: water + sugars + natural microorganisms = a slightly slimy texture.

As long as they still smell fresh, a simple rinse is enough to restore their crunch and enjoy them safely!
